Who am I?
I’m a secondary school student from Slovenia who likes to experiment with computers and other technology related things. My path began with an old Windows 95 computer and countless hours of playing DOS games like Commander Keen and Snoopy. I can remember sitting with my friends and trying to collect all the snails on a hill, so I could enter the next level. Yeah, those were good times.
A few years later I got my hands on a 1,7gHz Celeron with Windows XP (that was something new back then) and that’s when it all started. I no longer spent hours of shooting my enemies and trying to solve a ridle or two and I became somewheat more of a computer wiz. I started to test all sorts of software and my mum was never happy when I was testing different security products (you know, one didn’t uninstall completely and it clashed with a new one – lag, lag, lag,…) or experimenting with Windows themes and transformations.
When I was in the 5. grade of primary school (8 years total) my friend showed me how to install Windows XP on a fresh computer and that was the time when I started to fell like “hey, I’m good”. A year later my friend came with an idea to make a web portal about computers. I didn’t know anything about making a simple website and even less about PHP, FTP, MySQL and other abbreviations related to building a portal. It was time to dig into Google and read, read, read and again – read. First, we had a simple HTML site built with a free template and put onto a Slovene free web host. But that was, of course, not enough because we needed some dynamic elements. Soon we began searching for a free PHP & MySQL host and we experimented with all possible CMS’ and forums. All of that lasted for a year and a half and after not having a big success, we abandoned our goals and took a litle pause.
In my last year of primary school I joined a group of computer geeks (in a good way, of course) based at my current secondary school and from that time my knowledge grew exponentially. Through our projects I mastered (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, .NET development (Silverlight, desktop applications) and expanded my knowledge on networking, hardware and other aspects of computer technology.
